COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT


International Women’s Day Celebration:
The International Women’s Day celebration was organized at Arambda and Makanpur villages in Mithapur and also at Babrala. At Mithapur, members from four SHG clusters and village leaders participated. The program activities included a rally through the village streets, flag hoisting ceremony, cultural events, a skit on education and domestic violence, opinion sharing on role of women in the family and the society - the need for empowerment and gender equality.  The SHG members contributed a total of Rs. 15,000/- towards the program expenses.

At Babrala, 300 women came from surrounding villages to celebrate the day Bhagwandevi, an entrepreneur who started her business of making paper envelope narrated her struggle and achievement in life. She said rural women can shine if given a chance.  Musical chair and video show on female feticide were some of the activities in which women participated actively.

Tata Jagruti Yatra
A group of more than 400 youth visited Mithapur on 10th January 2011 as a part of the Tata Jagruti Yatra program.  The Tata Jagriti Yatra is an ambitious train journey of discovery and transformation that takes hundreds of India's highly motivated youth on an 18 day national odyssey. The aim of the program is to awaken the spirit of entrepreneurship. Visits to villages around Mithapur were organised for these youth to have a first-hand understanding of the various entrepreneurship and community development programs being implemented by TCSRD.

Tata’s Founder’s Day
To celebrate Tata’s Founder’s Day, a science exhibition, drawing and quiz competition, Kabbadi, and folk songs were organised at Babrala.  To mark the occasion twenty students got scholarship for higher studies, ten farmers got the solar light and lantern. Certificate of appreciation for doing good community work were also distributed to the volunteers.

Karzobi Annual Day
Karzobi Annual Day was celebrated on 30th March at Babrala with the karzobi members. Along with the celebration, the achievements and way forward for karzobi was also discussed with the members. The program was presided by Mohd. Arif, Chairman of Gunnaur. Mr. Arif said that there is need to establish a common facility centre for these artisans where they can come and work for their development.

Eye Camps
TCSRD in collaboration with Vivekanand Mission Ashram Netra Niramaya Niketan organized an Eye Camp at Anantpur Primary School on 2nd September, 2010. A team of one doctor and thirteen assistants from Vivekand Ashram were present during the camp. The local panchayatl leaders were the driving agents in organizing the camp. There was overwhelming response from the villagers. 150 patients were treated during the camp out of which 85 were women. People above 40 years of age availed the facilities of the camp as they were given the preference. 65 patients were provided with medicines during the camp, while 78 patients identified with vision problems were provided with spectacle.

TCSRD Babrala, conducted an eye camp in November 2010 with the technical support from Gandhi Eye Hospital Aligarh.

Out of the 714 people identified from Bulandshaher, Badaun and Moradabad, 188 were operated for cataract.

The support of the District Anti Blindness Committee, Gandhi Eye Hospital and the volunteers from TCL Babrala senior management team , human resource, administration, electrical, horticulture departments and DAV school students made this program a grand success.

Blood Donation Camp
TCSRD organized a blood donation camp at the TCL Plant Premise, Haldia on 16th September, 2010. During the camp, 46 people who donated blood were TCL employees and contract workmen. The camp was organized in cooperation with the Haldia Subdivision Hospital (Blood Bank - Government of West Bengal). TCL employees as volunteers helped in making the camp a success.

Another Blood Donation camp was organized in October’10, with the help of medical expert from District Hospital, Badaun, UP. 35 people voluntarily donated their blood. The senior managers from TCL set up an example by not only donating the blood themselves but also by motivating others employees to do the same.

Flood Relief Camp
In Babrala, there was flood due to heavy rainfall leading to the rise in the water level of the Ganges. The 34 km long dam got damaged, resulting in the flow of water in the core command areas close to the river Ganga. The roads got submerged and all communication links in many villages got snapped.

The flood situation was closely monitored from the begining with the help of district administration. The following activities were undertaken by TCSRD:

  • Medicines were distributed
  • Along with providing clean and chlorinated water through tankers, chlorine tablets were also provided
  • Health camps were organized. Doctors from Mithapur and Babrala along with the health team treated 3000 people from 47 villages.
  • Animal husbandry camps were organized with support of animal husbandry department along with the retired doctors as cattle’s were the worst affected. Around 3000 animals were treated. Follow up camp were also organized in second phase.

Tree Plantation Day
TCSRD celebrated “Tree Plantation Day” in primary schools of three CADP (Coastal Area Development Program) villages. Apart from the student’s, school staff, Pani Samiti members, TCSRD staff, Employees of Tata Chemicals Ltd. also participated in the program. 1021 saplings were planted in schools as well as in the compound of student’s houses. Breast Feeding Week 
A week long awareness campaign on breast feeding was organized from 1-7th September, 2010 for Accredited Social Health Activist (Asha) in fifty five villages. The doctor of Community Health Centre, Gunnaur imparted knowledge on the importance of breast feeding to the ASHA workers.

Ozone Day Celebration
International Ozone Day, 2010 was celebrated to create awareness in the community on the adverse impact of the Ozone Layer Depletion. TCSRD along with the Environment cell spread the theme - “Ozone Layer Protection – Governance and its compliance at their best. Eighty five school students participated in the quiz session. The students were also shown movie clips – "OJHI OZONE ".

Knowledge Fair                                                           
Knowledge Fair was organised at Babrala on 5th of September on the theme "Insight to intelligence to Innovation". 21 departments enthusiastically participated in the competition from across locations- Haldia, Aligarh, Noida.  85 members participated in this K fair with the spirt of learning and sharing the knowledge. On the occassion of Teachers Day, Mr. V.K Bhatia gave stole designed by Karjobi artisan to the teachers of surrounding villages and of DAV School. 
Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development, Babrala got winner trophy and the first and second runner ups were Sales and Marketing, Noida and Instrumentation Department at Babrala.
